LAVAL, QC, Oct. 7, 2026 /CNW/ -- LEARN (Leading English Education and Resource Network) congratulates Paul St-Pierre Plamondon, the Parti Québécois government-elect and all newly elected Members of the National Assembly. The organization hopes to build a productive relationship with the future government for the benefit of English-speaking students and communities. The education initiatives announced during the campaign provide an opportunity to fully consider the realities of the English-language education network and strengthen collaboration with the organizations that support it.
"For twenty years, LEARN has worked with schools, school boards, teachers, families and many partners to provide services tailored to the realities of English-speaking communities across Quebec. We want to put that experience at the disposal of the future government and build a constructive, predictable relationship based on genuine partnership. Respect for the rights of our community and recognition of the role played by those who contribute every day to student success must guide that relationship," said Christine Truesdale, Chief Executive Officer of LEARN.
The Parti Québécois has committed to holding province-wide Estates General on education within its first 100 days in office and to launching five major areas of work, including vocational training, school dropout rates and school diversity. It has also proposed paying certain mandatory final internships, including in teaching, and increasing support for student mental health. For LEARN, these discussions will also provide an opportunity to address recognition of its contribution to the education network, clarification of its status and more stable and predictable funding mechanisms, while respecting the rights of Quebec's English-speaking community.
For its part, the Quebec Liberal Party has expressed support for English school boards and English CEGEPs. Both the Quebec Liberal Party and Québec solidaire have also proposed additional specialized resources and greater support for students. LEARN hopes these contributions will help keep the success of English-speaking students at the centre of the new legislature's work and foster lasting collaboration between the government and the partners serving the English-language education network.
