EllisDon sets sights on mission to build trades facility in Haiti

Companies work with Empower Global to acquire donations

MISSISSAUGA, ON, Jan. 20, 2014 /CNW/ - EllisDon will be sending Chief Estimator, Jason Walker, to Haiti- along with select experts from six related businesses- to assist in the construction of a trades facility that will provide skilled training for local residents. Walker will be working with Empower Global, a Canadian-registered local charity, to oversee work teams and on-site construction.

From January 27 to February 7, this team of professionals will be constructing a trades facility in Cap Haitien (on the northern coast of Haiti) that will host welding, automotive and woodworking workshops. In addition, tools brought and utilized during this project will remain in Cap Haitien for future trainees.

In support of this mission, EllisDon is participating in a $100,000 fundraising campaign that will finance construction of the training facility, warehouse, accommodations and equipment. Already, EllisDon Ottawa and Saskatoon offices have each donated $5,000, which adds to the list of generous donations made by other employees, subcontractors and clients. This has been a great kick-start to the cause, though efforts remain focused on the $100,000 goal.
