OTTAWA, Sept. 26, 2012 /CNW/ - The Elliot Lake Commission of Inquiry will hold hearings on standing and funding on Friday, October 26, 2012, in Elliot Lake, Commissioner Paul R. Bélanger announced today.
The hearings will be held in the Maple Room at the Hampton Inn, 279 Highway 108 North, in Elliot Lake, starting at 9:30 a.m.

Standing before a Commission of Inquiry gives the individual or organization the right to take part in the proceedings on terms set by the Commissioner. The Inquiry is inviting applications from any person or group who has a substantial and direct interest in the subject matter of the Inquiry or whose participation may be helpful to fulfill the Commissioner's mandate.
No evidence will be heard at this hearing. Evidentiary hearings are scheduled to start early in 2013.
The Elliot Lake Commission of Inquiry was established on July 19, 2012 by the Government of Ontario under the Public Inquiries Act, 2009. Its mandate is to inquire into and report on events surrounding the collapse on June 23, 2012, of the Algo Centre Mall in Elliot Lake, the deaths of Lucie Aylwin and Doloris Perizzolo and the injuries to other individuals as well as the emergency management and response. Furthermore, the Commission is to review relevant legislation, regulations and bylaws, policies processes and procedures of provincial and municipal governments and other parties with respect to the structural integrity of the Algo Centre Mall and the emergency management and response. The Commission is to make recommendations to prevent such occurrences in the future. The Commission is to report within 18 months.
