WATERLOO, ON, June 15, 2018 /CNW/ - The 2017 Public Accountability Statement for Economical Insurance is now online and available for download. It provides the details of social responsibility efforts the company has championed through charitable giving, respect for the environment, and support for employees, brokers, and customers.
"At Economical, we know that we are stronger together. This is true from our valued broker partnerships, the commitment of our employees, and the impact we have in the communities in which we operate," said Rowan Saunders, President and CEO of Economical Insurance. "This is why we are committed to the communities where we live and work, and we see this commitment as a core part of what makes us a leading insurer in Canada."
Economical's community giving program funds charitable causes in safety and security, youth and education, and health and wellness. For these causes, Economical invested nearly $1.2 million in communities across Canada during 2017 through charitable donations and sponsorships. Almost 30% of these funds were given in association with brokers partners across the country.
Empowering employees to engage in local communities is a priority for Economical. In 2017, employees volunteered more than 3,000 hours during the work week throughout the year and supported more than 100 different registered charities. Almost 500 of these hours were spent in schools helping 2,516 Canadian students realize their potential through the delivery of Junior Achievement programming in financial literacy and the importance of education.
Economical employees were engaged in wellness programs, with 70% participation in wellness programs during 2017 that promote mental, physical, and financial wellness. These programs tracked employees as they recorded 229 million steps and conducted nearly 15,000 acts of kindness.
A key part of Economical's social responsibility is environmental initiatives, which continue to show progress. In addition to raising awareness of environmental sustainability within the company, in 2017 Economical diverted 79% of operational waste away from landfills in Waterloo, Ontario, where the company is headquartered.
