SHARON, ON, June 26, 2018 /CNW/ - The Town of East Gwillimbury is pleased to announce that DUCA Financial Services Credit Union Ltd. (DUCA) will open a new banking branch in Mount Albert. DUCA, who officially completed the purchase of the building at 19132 Centre Street this month, anticipates that the new branch will officially open for business this summer.
"Council is very pleased to see a new financial institution take over this prime location in Mount Albert," said Mayor Virginia Hackson, on behalf of Council. "The loss of the TD Canada Trust branch after over 100 years in the community was devastating to local residents and businesses, and the re-establishment of a banking presence in Mount Albert has been a priority for Council. We welcome DUCA to the community and look forward to the official branch opening."
At a recent Special Meeting of Council, Council unanimously supported staff to facilitate discussions to assist DUCA with the purchase of the property at 19132 Centre Street. In alignment with the Downtown Mount Albert Revitalization Plan, Council also directed staff to seek $58,000 in newly available provincial funding to update the public realm and streetscape at the corners of Main Street and Centre Street in Mount Albert, near where the new DUCA branch will be located. It is expected that enhancements to the streetscape and the opening of a new financial institution will continue to assist with attracting businesses, residents, and consumers to the Main Street area in Mount Albert.
"It is an honour to contribute to Mount Albert's downtown revitalization and to give residents access to the banking services that they deserve with the opening of our new branch," said Phil Taylor, Senior Vice President, Business and Personal Banking, DUCA. "We extend our sincere thanks to Mayor Hackson for her support through this process, and we look forward to providing caring and personalized financial services and advice to the residents of Mount Albert."
As a credit union, DUCA is driven by a cooperative philosophy that allows members to have a voice in how DUCA is run and rewards them through profit sharing. Originally established in 1954 by Dutch Canadians who saw the need for a financial cooperative that would work to the benefit of its members, DUCA now provides a full range of financial services to support nearly 60,000 individuals and businesses at each stage of their financial journeys.
"At DUCA, caring for our Members and our communities is at the heart of everything we do," said Doug Conick, President & CEO, DUCA. "We have a long history of supporting and strengthening communities and are looking forward to serving the residents of Mount Albert to help them do more, be more and achieve more with their money and their lives."
The Town of East Gwillimbury would like to express appreciation to TD Canada Trust for its co-operation with the Town to facilitate the sale of the bank branch to DUCA, and for its long-standing community presence.
