Dr. Raoul Korngold Ph.D, RMCCM, receives the 2010 Distinguished
Microbiologist Service Award
EDMONTON, AB, May 8 /CNW Telbec/ - Dr. Linda Chui Ph.D., ARMCCM, President of the Canadian College of Microbiologists (CCM) is pleased to announce that the 2010 Distinguished Microbiologist Service Award will be presented to Dr. Raoul R. Korngold Ph.D., RMCCM on May 8th, 2010 at the Annual AMMI-Canada-CACMID Conference in Edmonton, Alberta.
The Distinguished Microbiologist Service Award is given annually to a member of the Canadian College of Microbiologists in recognition of outstanding professional contributions in the categories where certification is provided by the College.
Dr. Raoul Korngold has been involved in Education for the greatest part of his varied career at both College and University levels. He earned a B.Sc. (Clinical Microbiology) from San Marcos University (Lima), and received a M. Sc. and a Ph. D. from the University of Ottawa, where he studied under the supervision of Dr. Don Kushner. After some early training in electron microscopy under Dr. Frances Doane at the University of Toronto, he continued his training with Dr. Audrey Glauert at the Strangeways Research Laboratory in Cambridge (U.K.), on a Neuffied Foundation Award .
Dr. Korngold has actively volunteered his time and expertise to the CCM Board for many years. He is a founding member of the Canadian College of Microbiologists, its first Registrar (1978) and in 1979, as member of the Board of Directors, its first Chairperson of the Education committee. He was re-elected in 2004 as a member of the CCM Board of Directors and chaired its Institutional Review Task Force. In the Fall of 2004 he was appointed Registrar of the CCM, in which capacity he continues to serve the Board and his colleagues.
He is a member of various scientific societies in the field of Microbiology and Boards of private and non-governmental organizations involved in international development and literacy in developing nations.
