Beauharnois hydroelectric generating station: Exceptional since 1932
Beauharnois hydropower plant was Québec's largest and most powerful until 1979, when the Robert-Bourassa facility in Baie-James was commissioned. With 38 generating units spread out over nearly a kilometre, the venerable Beauharnois powerhouse plays a key role in Hydro-Québec's grid.
Discover the world of electricity generation
The station's tour guides are great at popularizing science. They'll explain how a run-of-river station generates electricity in an urban setting. You'll see generating units in action and unlock the mysteries of electricity.
