Director of Photography Yash Khanna has his eye set on Helios Productions film deal
LOS ANGELES, Jan. 28, 2014 /CNW/ - Blue chip Director of Photography, Yash Khanna, is set to work on two additional feature films for Helios Productions, the house responsible for such films as A Mother's Rage starring Lori Loughlin (Old Dogs, Full House) and Reaper starring Danny Trejo (Machete). The two films are currently in pre-production with story details under wraps. The deal comes following a successful shoot on the Helios Productions action-comedy, Martial Science, and adds to an already successful year for Khanna.
Martial Science takes on the martial arts film genre with equal parts irreverence and admiration, mixing in solid action sequences and over the top humor to satiate fans of the form. Starring Alejandro Salomon as Jean Claude Sanchez, a French/Mexican martial artist raised in America and sent to China to participate in an underground tournament. The film also stars Grainger Hines (Lincoln, Justified). Martial Science finished post-production in December 2013, and is expected to tour the film festival circuit in 2014.
"It's not a complete parody, but it's very similar," says Khanna. "It was a great production and one of the best shooting experiences."
Coming from a family deeply entrenched in the Indian film industry, Khanna continues to make headway in the family business. With a background at Mad Entertainment, the major Indian production company behind such hits as Paa, Cheeni Kum and Tere Naam, Khanna's track record surely helped him land the two-picture deal with Helios Productions.
"Yash brought a fantastic visual style to all the action sequences shot in the movie," says Alejandro Salomon, CEO of Helios Productions. "He is a master cinematographer who handles big projects with ease. Helios production is excited for its future with Yash Khanna."
The announcement adds another feather in Khanna's cap, who is also celebrating the completion of the short independent film by Jamie Deacon entitled Way to Blue, which recently landed award-winning editor Curtiss Clayton in anticipation of a run at all the major film festivals. The film takes on the story of a heroine addict in a European film style. Clayton has worked on such critically acclaimed films as The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford and hand-picked Way to Blue in a rare short film venture.
