State-of-the-art equipment provides enhanced service and value for
    publications market

WESTON, Fla., April 21 /CNW/ -- DHL Global Mail is further streamlining the delivery of magazines and other periodicals, with new technology that reduces publication processing times and helps keep customer costs down.

The mail expediter recently invested in a state-of-the-art, high-volume polywrapping system to provide enhanced service and value for the publications market. This new equipment is made by Buhrs, a leading manufacturer of systems for preparing media products for mailing. It is currently in use at Global Mail's processing facility in Newark, New Jersey, one of 16 highly automated mail terminals the company operates throughout the U.S. This technology upgrade further reduces the manual handling of publications, providing accelerated processing.

Polywrapping is the process of inserting magazines and other periodicals into a high-quality film covering for mailing. Global Mail's new system, which also handles catalogs, increases throughput with its capacity of 15,000 publications per hour. Additionally, the equipment can polywrap thicker pieces to better serve publications customers. An automated feeder eliminates hand-feeding, and the system automatically stacks publications and straps them into bundles to prepare them for shipment. This increased efficiency not only reduces processing times, but also helps Global Mail to contain costs and keep rates down for publication mailers.

"Global Mail's streamlined delivery model helps us provide our customers with fast transit times and the best value in the industry," said Lee Spratt, CEO of DHL Global Mail - Americas.
