Detour Lake Gold Mine Project - Federal Funding Awarded to Participate in the
Environmental Assessment

OTTAWA, Sept. 1 /CNW Telbec/ - The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency has awarded $19,600 to Northwatch Coalition for Environmental Protection to support its participation in the federal environmental assessment of the proposed Detour Lake Gold Mine Project, located 185 km northeast of Cochrane, Ontario.

This funding is awarded through the Participant Funding Program administered by the Agency and is being provided to assist the recipient in participating in upcoming steps in the comprehensive study process, including the public review of the comprehensive study report.

A funding review committee examined the request for funding. The committee's report, along with further information on the project, is available in the Canadian Environmental Assessment Registry on the Agency's Web site at www.ceaa-acee.gc.ca , under reference number 10-03-52262.

Detour Gold Corporation proposes to develop an open-pit gold mine on a previously mined (brown field) site located approximately 185 km northeast of the Town of Cochrane, Ontario. The proposal includes: an open pit mine; ore processing plant; tailings and waste rock storage facilities; site access roads; airstrip; power transmission lines; explosives factory and magazines; water management facilities; buildings; ancillary mine infrastructure and associated activities. The proposed mine is based on a production capacity of approximately 55,000 tonnes per day with an anticipated mine life of approximately 12 years.

The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency administers the federal environmental assessment process, which identifies the environmental effects of proposed projects and measures to address those effects, in support of sustainable development.
