Destiny Media Technologies Announces Recent Patent Grants
Disruptive Watermarking and Cross Platform Streaming Technologies Protected Globally
VANCOUVER, April 11, 2015 /CNW/ - Destiny Media Technologies (TSXV: DSY) (OTCQX: DSNY) today announced new additions to its broad patent portfolio.
The company has created a cross platform video streaming technology that is powered by the HTML 5 <canvas> tag using Javascript rather than the more common HTML 5 <video> tag. This creates a number of advantages including much better publisher control, a higher play rate, lower delivery costs, greater longevity, better security, increased flexibility and improved interactivity.
To protect this technology, the company originally filed a Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) application with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) along with seven United States patent applications which claim priority back to August 2011.
Recently, the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) issued Notices of Allowance in connection with four of Destiny's seven United States patent applications. In the remaining three United States patent applications, the USPTO has indicated that many of the claims are allowed or allowable. Destiny is currently advancing arguments and / or amendments in favor of the reconsideration of the remaining claims.
The PCT application corresponding to this technology has entered the national / regional phase in China, Europe, Japan, Australia, India, Canada, Israel, Singapore, New Zealand, South Africa, Russia and Hong Kong, where applications are currently pending.
The company also has developed a unique watermarking technology that survives analog duplication, filtering, file conversion and down sampling and unlike other technologies, is completely inaudible. This allows the source of leaked and pirated music to be traced. This watermarking technology has resulted in issued patents in the United States (two patents and a third one pending), Japan, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, France, Sweden and Germany.
Recently, the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) issued a Notice of Allowance in connection with the Canadian patent application corresponding to this watermarking technology.
The company has twenty-one granted trademark registrations and three pending trademark applications for MPE,® Play MPE® , Clipstream® and Sonox Digital® .
