Destination Canada offers Canadian storytelling assets ahead of UCI Road World Championships
FrançaisMedia are invited to access a hub of resources and creative assets
MONTREAL, Sept. 10, 2026 /CNW/ -- As Canada prepares to welcome one of the world's largest annual sporting events and the pinnacle event in international road cycling, Destination Canada is sharing new assets to support storytelling, including a first look at growing cycling routes, a media toolkit, and rich visual assets.
Canada's diverse natural landscape and warm-hearted hospitality is a perfect backdrop for athletes and fans passionate to explore and compete on two wheels. As the elite cycling showcase rolls into Montréal, Quebec, for the UCI Road World Championships, from September 20-27 2026, the free-to-attend event will bring the sport's biggest names and some 50,000 fans and spectators to a city where biking is second nature.
In step with the event, Canada's welcoming spirit and great outdoors is celebrated on the world stage, and inspiring locals and guests alike to explore Quebec and beyond with plenty of reasons to hop off the bike and stay awhile.
Destination Canada has created a toolkit comprised of resources including images, video and stories to help share the rich diversity and exceptional experiences around the country. Stories range from:
- Entry to Canada: Montréal is a gateway to exploring Canada, served by many international airlines with direct flights to the city. Guests can plan experiences within a 1–2-hour drive or flight. Cycling tourism is also aided by VIA Rail, whereby guests can explore the in-between less seen from the road with reservable bike space available for a small fee each way between Ottawa–Québec City.
- A culture-rich city: Montréal is an urban belt filled with city experiences, heritage and culture. With 3,623 kilometres of bike paths across Greater Montréal, nearly 1,000 BIXI stations, and official UCI Bike City status, Montréal was made for cycling. Here, visitors and locals are often seen pedalling beside the Lachine Canal, winding through Mont Royal Park, or hopping between the cafés, markets, and heritage streets of the Plateau and Mile End.
- Cycling corridors: The Cycle Ontario–Quebec Corridor is a cross-provincial cycling route currently being implemented and linking Ottawa, Montréal, Cornwall and the Prescott-Russell region with surrounding rural communities. More than a transportation pathway, this Corridor, parts of which can be cycled today, connects travellers with UNESCO-designated waterways, agritourism, Indigenous experiences and local artisans. It offers a new way to experience the communities and landscapes while travelling at a slower pace.
Tourism is Canada's top service export, and the country is benefiting from its globally recognized warm and welcoming reputation. In the first half of 2026, tourism revenue grew 5.6%, supported by a 7.6% increase in international visitor spending.
Summer 2025 was a record season for Canadian tourism, reaching an estimated $59B in revenue. While the final numbers are still coming in, the UCI Road World Championships arrives to Canada on the heels of what is expected to be yet another record-breaking summer. Canada's momentum is being driven by travellers who want meaningful experiences, and that plays directly to what Canada offers best.
Cycling fans, athletes, and explorers are invited to experience the awe and wonder that stays with you for years to come. Surrounded by the warmth of hospitality and the great Canadian wilderness, nature is always close in Canada.
