SHERBROOKE, QC, June 2, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - DeLaval continues to make strides in innovative herd health solutions and cow comfort. To help prevent and better manage herd lameness, DeLaval Canada has signed an agreement with Laboratoire M2 to distribute the Sherbrooke based company's revolutionary footbath disinfectant solution, Thymox®.
Thymox® can be used to help prevent and control diseases such as digital dermatitis (DD), a contagious infection common in dairy herds which can affect milk production. Thymox® with the active ingredient thymol, is recognized by Health Canada as a bactericide. When incorporated on farm into a regular frequent footbath routine, it can be an effective treatment in controlling hoof disease related bacteria. Evidence from an independent international study indicates Thymox® is just as effective as traditional products to prevent and control DD. It is easy to use and, being a powerful plant based ingredient, is environmentally safer than copper sulfate and formalin-based footbaths. Thymox® is the first agricultural disinfectant to receive UL EcoLogo certification, and is fully biodegradable (14 days).
Jean-François Lambert, Branch Manager with DeLaval Canada, is excited about the agreement. "In keeping with our focus on cow longevity and sustainability, DeLaval is pleased to offer Canadian dairy producers another innovative solution," said Lambert. "This is designed to contribute significantly to improved animal welfare and reduce overall operating costs on farm"
For his part, Serge Auray, President and CEO of Laboratoire M2, said: "We are delighted to work with an international leader such as DeLaval who has recognized Thymox® as a green, effective and low-cost solution to serious health and environmental concerns."
Thymox® is available through the authorized DeLaval dealer network in Canada.
