OTTAWA and GATINEAU, QC, Feb. 21, 2019 /CNW/ - Today, the CRTC is inviting Canadians to share their views on its Facebook page between February 21, and March 4, 2019, about the possible creation of a mandatory code of conduct for Internet service providers.
The CRTC wants to hear from all Canadians, but especially those paying for Internet services and who may have experienced issues related to contract clarity, bill shock, and cancelling or changing service providers, among others.
Facebook posts that comply with the CRTC's Rules of Engagement and that are posted on the specific photo album will be added to the public record for the ongoing proceeding.
"With this proceeding, we are reaching out to Canadians on the digital platforms they use, such as Facebook. This is a great opportunity for Canadians to share with us their ideas to solve the various issues they may face when dealing with the business practices of Internet service providers."

- The CRTC is seeking comments from consumers on the need for an Internet Code, as well as its content, implementation, administration, enforcement and promotion.
- This consultation will allow Canadians to submit their views on a platform the vast majority of them are familiar with, while allowing the CRTC to receive feedback on the proposed code.
- The Internet Code would, among other things, establish consumer-friendly business practices, ensure contracts are easy-to-understand, and make it easier for Canadians to switch providers to take advantage of competitive offers.
- Between November 9 and December 19, 2018, the CRTC consulted Canadians and other interested parties on the possible implementation of an Internet Code via a Notice of Consultation, which included a Working Document to stimulate discussion and debate.
