CPSO begins legal proceeding against person practising medicine without a licence
TORONTO, Feb. 14, 2014 /CNW/ - Today, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) launched a legal proceeding by issuing an Application with the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in Toronto against Eve Stewart, who is affiliated with Eve's Laser Clinic, 13 Viewmount Drive, Ottawa, Ontario.
The CPSO is seeking a Court order directing Eve Stewart, who is not licensed to practise medicine, to refrain from performing controlled acts. The controlled acts include, but are not limited to:
- communicating to an individual or his or her representative a diagnosis identifying a disease or disorder as the cause of symptoms;
- performing a procedure below the dermis such as performing surgery;
- administering a substance by injection; and
- putting an instrument, hand or finger beyond the labia majora and beyond the point in the nasal passages where they normally narrow.
Furthermore, the CPSO is seeking an order, if necessary, abridging the time for service and filing of all court materials filed by us. We are requesting the earliest possible hearing date, which is yet to be set by the Court.
The CPSO is the regulatory body for the medical profession in Ontario, and is entrusted with serving and protecting the public interest. In the interest of public safety, we are commencing this legal proceeding against a non-member.
