TORONTO, April 10, 2017 /CNW/ - Corby Spirit and Wine Ltd. has once again proven that its Canadian whiskies are truly world-class! Six prestigious honours were awarded to J.P. Wiser's and Gooderham & Worts Canadian whiskies at the World Whiskies Awards, which took place in London, England on March 30th. These top industry nods closely follow the national recognition that Corby's whiskies earned in January at the Canadian Whisky Awards.
"2017 marks 160 years that we've been in the business of making great Canadian whisky," says Chris Bhowmik, Brand Director, J.P. Wiser's, "and we are absolutely thrilled that our products have been ranked among the best in the world once again. The passion and dedication of our employees goes into every single bottle that we produce, and these awards are a true reflection of their spirit. On behalf of all of us, I can say that we are honoured to share it with the world."
The World Whiskies Awards are the culmination of 3 rounds of blind judging conducted by an international panel of experts. Collectively, Corby's whiskies took home the following awards:
J.P. Wiser's Double Still Rye – Best Canadian Rye
A masterful blend of copper pot distilled rye, and copper column distilled rye, that results in a bold yet smooth whisky.
J.P. Wiser's Hopped – World's Best Flavoured Whisky & Best Canadian Flavoured Whisky
An innovative blend of whisky, hops, coffee and chocolate extracts that delivers a rich taste reminiscent of stout-style beer.
J.P. Wiser's Dissertation – World's Best Blended Limited Release & Best Canadian Blended Limited Release
A soon-to-be-launched LCBO exclusive, this whisky is the thesis of Master Blender Dr. Livermore, for which he earned his PhD in Brewing and Distilling. This rye-forward whisky is the result of his studies to draw out the richest notes of vanilla, toffee and spice through the quality of barrels.
Gooderham & Worts – World's Best Canadian Blended Whisky
A blend of pot distilled and column distilled rye, wheat, barley and corn, which brings out flavours both light and heavy – modern, rich and complex.
"Canadian whisky belongs on the world stage, and we are proud to be leading the way," says Don Livermore, Master Blender. "This dynamic category allows us the freedom to produce creative new products such as J.P. Wiser's Hopped and bold limited releases like J.P. Wiser's Dissertation. It's a wonderful feeling to know that our ongoing commitment to innovation and quality has been validated yet again with such prestigious international acclaim."
