Communiqué by the Archbishop of Montreal on Cardinal Jean-Claude Turcotte's Health

MONTREAL, March 26, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - At the end of last summer, Cardinal Jean-Claude Turcotte was hospitalized. Despite the high-quality care he received and the devotion of his loved ones, his health continued to deteriorate until he was admitted to a palliative care unit on March 24.

It is with great sadness that I share this news with you, and I join his family and all those who knew him in their sadness. I ask that eveyone respect his and his family's privacy, so that they may go through this stage together and at their own pace.

I think about the faithful of the archdiocese that were under the Cardinal's devoted pastoral care, of the media, with whom he had worked extensively, and of the public that has appreciated him for many years. Together, may we support them, him and his family, in silence and prayer.

Let us entrust Cardinal Jean-Claude Turcotte to Jesus, who is alive.

+ Christian Lépine
Archbishop of Montreal
