VANCOUVER, April 3, 2012 /CNW/ - On April 2, 2012, Cynthia Johansen became the Registrar/CEO of the College of Registered Nurses of B.C. She was appointed to the position by the Board of the College.
Ms. Johansen was previously the College's Director of Registration, Inquiry, and Discipline. Ms. Johansen brings to her new role a strong understanding of the complexity of the health-care system, the nature of nursing practice, and how a health professional regulatory body must work to ensure that the public is protected.
"I believe profession-led regulation contributes positively to society," said Ms. Johansen. "Patient safety is of utmost importance to registered nurses, nurse practitioners, and the College. I will work to engage nurses and others so that the College continues its significant contribution to B.C.'s health-care system."
The College is the regulatory body for 38,000 registered nurses and nurse practitioners in B.C. It sets standards, supports registered nurses to meet standards, and acts if standards are not met.
