CLAUDE ANDRÉ HÉBERT CELEBRATES NEARLY FOUR DECADES IN PERFUMERY WITH A PANEL, A NEW MONTREAL BOUTIQUE, AND A PARTNERSHIP AROUND THE VICTORIA FRAGRANCE
MONTRÉAL, Sept. 1, 2026 /CNW/ -- Perfumer Claude André Hébert, founder of Hébert Haute Parfumerie, marked nearly four decades in the fragrance industry this past weekend at MTL Olfaction, a sold-out UQAM panel on Canadian perfumery featuring Hébert alongside Simon Toley and Stéphane Le Duc. Using the event's momentum, Hébert announced two major developments: a new concept boutique in Montreal and a partnership with journalist Suzanne Wexler centered on his signature fragrance, Victoria.
Hébert's career began with the 1995 Canadian launch of Angel by Thierry Mugler, where he served as regional commercial manager, before he founded his own Maison in 2007. His work reflects an artisanal, narrative approach to scent: each perfume is built around an imagined story meant to awaken the wearer's deepest aspirations. For private clients, he crafts bespoke fragrances through an in-depth questionnaire exploring personal memories.
His creations use sustainably-sourced ingredients from Kannauj, India; Calabria, Italy; and Grasse, France. Each blend undergoes a 28-day maceration beginning under a full moon, followed by 24 hours of sub-zero chilling and precise filtration before bottling -- a process Hébert describes as merging scientific precision with celestial timing.
The new boutique, opening on Colonial Avenue near Leonard Cohen's former Montreal home, operates by appointment only, hosting intimate salon-style gatherings with artists and authors rather than functioning as a conventional retail space. "True luxury is human," Hébert said. "A fragrance must have a soul, a story, and a person behind its creation."
The Victoria partnership traces back to Suzanne Wexler, who bought the fragrance as its very first customer when it launched on Victoria Avenue in Westmount. Their bond deepened during the pandemic, when she removed her mask to experience the scent up close. Wexler now becomes Victoria's muse, co-hosting literary and cultural events tied to the fragrance. "Suzanne was Victoria's first customer," Hébert said. "Today, she becomes its muse and my partner in this new adventure."
Following a 2025 showcase in Paris at Sens Unique, Hébert continues expanding internationally while keeping Montreal as his creative base, which he considers essential to independent, authentic craftsmanship.
