CivicAction CEO Mitzie Hunter to run for provincial office
CivicAction to operate with interim Executive Committee
TORONTO, July 3, 2013 /CNW/ - CivicAction's Chief Executive Officer Mitzie Hunter was nominated this evening as the Ontario Liberal candidate for the upcoming by-election for the riding of Scarborough-Guildwood. She is taking a leave of absence from CivicAction while she pursues elected office.
During her absence, CivicAction will operate with an interim Executive Committee reporting to CivicAction's Chair John Tory and Board of Directors. The interim Executive Committee will consist of Linda Weichel, Vice President; Tamara Balan, Project Director; Keesha Bell, Office Manager & Executive Assistant; and Mina Mawani, Chief Development Officer.
CivicAction Chair John Tory made the following statement:
Mitzie has made a tremendous contribution to CivicAction since becoming CEO in January 2012. Her obvious passion for this region and its people shines through in everything she does. She has also built a team at CivicAction that is ready, willing and capable of continuing to move the organization's strategic priorities forward during Mitzie's absence. I've known Mitzie for a decade, and while I led a different political party I can say she is just the kind of person we need offering herself for election. I wish Mitzie all the best with her campaign. |
