CityHousing Hamilton Passes Mandate Requiring Pioneering's Safe-T-element® on Electric Coil Ranges
Technology has become the standard for Ontario affordable housing providers
HAMILTON, ON, Jan. 5, 2012 /CNW/ - Pioneering Technology Corp. (TSXV: PTE) (OTCBB: PTEFF), ("Pioneering"), an energy smart product innovation and consumer goods company, announced today that CityHousing Hamilton ("CHH") passed a mandate requiring that all electric ranges must now include Safe-T-element® meaning that all new or replacement electric coil ranges must be equipped with this technology. By enforcing this policy, Hamilton now officially joins the many other large affordable housing providers that have already mandated the inclusion of the Safe-T-element® technology.
"I applaud The City of Hamilton's proactive approach to fire prevention. A significant number of our fire related responses are from cooking fires caused by unattended cooking," said Robert Simonds, Fire Chief, Hamilton Emergency Services-Fire and President of the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs. "Our hope is that we may reduce the frequency of our fire responses for both fires and nuisance alarms. This will save the taxpayer money and help preserve our precious city resources." Simonds adds: "If other housing providers across Canada take proactive steps towards fire prevention, perhaps we will see a significant reduction nationally to the # 1 cause of apartment fires in Canada - stovetop cooking."
"We are grateful for the support that we receive from Hamilton Fire, as we constantly strive to make our affordable housing safer for residents to live," said CityHousing Hamilton's Director and CEO, Brenda Osborne.
Safe-T-element is the only technology available today that helps prevent stove top cooking fires (the number one cause of household fire in North America) while also saving energy. Available on new ranges or as a retrofit, this technology is now installed on over 60,000 ranges in multi-residential housing throughout North America.
Pioneering CEO Kevin Callahan said, "Hamilton was one of the early adopters of the Safe-T-element technology and today's announcement confirms the City's commitment to it long term. We are very proud to say that the Safe-T-element cooking system is now mandated by approximately 85% of Ontario's largest affordable housing providers."
