BEAUHARNOIS, QC, Sept. 15, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)
The Régie intermunicipale Sports et Loisirs Beau-Château is pleased to announce that City of Beauharnois will receive $500,000 in funding to upgrade the outdoor aquatic complex. This assistance is provided under the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP150), administered by Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED).
At the official announcement, the Mayor of Beauharnois and the Mayor of Châteauguay were accompanied by the federal Member of Parliament for Châteauguay–Lacolle, Brenda Shanahan, who noted that the financial assistance provided under the CIP150 clearly reflected the Government of Canada's commitment to foster sustainable community growth and prosperity. "By upgrading infrastructure such as the Beauharnois aquatic complex, we are helping to enhance the vitality of our communities and ensure a high quality of life for the residents of Beauharnois and Châteauguay."
The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED, also welcomed the investment, which targets a community building project to celebrate Canada's 150th anniversary. "What better way to mark this milestone than by celebrating the places that bring us together—the places that allow us to stay fit, unwind and connect with our friends and neighbours. That's how we establish the bonds of common understanding and friendship in a country where people come from every corner of the world. The values of openness, diversity and inclusion that define all Canadians are forged in our community spaces."
VALUED COLLABORATION FOR THE GOOD OF THE COMMUNITY
Thrilled by the announcement, the Mayor of Beauharnois, Claude Haineault, applauded the collaboration that unites the cities of Beauharnois and Châteauguay in this large-scale project, noting that "the reason for the project is to make our recreational infrastructure adequate and adapted to our residents' needs. The development of this outdoor aquatic complex will help the city ensure the continuity of recreational services. Our collaboration with the City of Châteauguay is in line with our willingness to provide a greater range of services for our respective populations close to where they live. I would like to thank the federal government for its contribution to this unifying project, which brings together Beauharnois and Châteauguay."
After visiting the work site, Michel Pinard, President of Régie intermunicipale Sports et Loisirs Beau-Château, stated: "I am proud to see that Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions appreciated the innovative and visionary nature of this growth-generating project for our region. A united community is a strong community, and that is what we are demonstrating again today."
With an increased capacity of 550 swimmers, the Régie Beau-Château aquatic complex pool will have a 4-metre high slide, five 25-metre swimming lanes, a wave river, a waterplay area and a wading pool.
