CIM Convention 2019 - "The Changing Face of Mining" is recognized by Natural Resources Canada officials

MONTREAL, April 23, 2019 /CNW Telbec/ - Intelligence. Information. Innovation. Influence. The letter "I" will connect thousands of professionals from all fields of mining during the annual Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM) Convention taking place at the Palais des Congrès de Montréal from April 28 to May 1, 2019. Expected to draw over 5,000 delegates from across Canada and around the globe, the three-day conference, tradeshow and business and networking event will feature more than 200 technical oral presentations by industry thought leaders.
With enhanced focus on mining operations, the technical streams will delve into Sustainable Mining, Innovation, Automation and Data, Rocks to Resources, Health and Safety, and People and Communities. Two select symposiums will also take place in parallel to the CIM Convention: the 7th North American Iron Ore Symposium and the 17th North American Mine Ventilation Symposium (NAMVS 2019).
The program will be kicked off by a newly formatted, dynamic and interactive plenary exploring "The Changing face of Mining" through many lenses. The plenary will begin with opening remarks from Assistant Deputy Minister, Minerals Sector, Natural Resources Canada (ADM), Glenn Mason. The following distinguished panelists will lead the discussion: Nathan Stubina, Vice-President, Technology, Sherritt International (moderator); Maryse Belanger, President and Chief Operating Officer, Atlantic Gold Corporation; Alexandre Cervinka, President and Chief Executive Officer, Newtrax Technologies; Fred Stanford, President and Chief Executive Officer, Torex Gold Resources Inc.; and Theresa Nyabeze, Senior Mine Engineer, Vale Ontario Operations.
Day two keynote speakers will be Janice Zinck, Director at CANMET Mining, Natural Resources Canada and CIM President 2018-2019; and Cathy Gallagher-Louisy, Senior Director, Consulting and Partnerships, Canadian Centre for Diversity and Inclusion. The session will begin with opening remarks from Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Natural Resources (PS), Paul Lefebvre. Zinck will discuss Crushing the Consumption Conundrum, and following her address the six finalists of Impact Canada's $10-million Crush It! Challenge will be announced by Minister Paul Lefebvre. Gallagher-Louisy will then educate the room on "How to Harness Diversity Dividend and Mitigate Diversity Debt."
"I believe that those who have been attending the Convention regularly are in for some nice surprises this year as we inject innovative approaches to content delivery," says CIM's CEO, Angela Hamlyn.
The business of mining is big at the CIM Convention. The sold-out 36th edition of the EXPO, Canada's Mining Marketplace, will host 475 exhibiting companies featuring the latest in mining equipment and solutions. New this year: 40 live presentations on the Innovation Stage will add activity and inspiration to the Expo floor.
