Christine Tan Promoted to Senior Portfolio Manager and Chief Compliance Officer at Excel Investment Counsel Inc.
TORONTO, July 7, 2015 /CNW/ - Bhim D. Asdhir, President and CEO of Excel Funds Management Inc. ("Excel Funds"), is pleased to announce the promotion of Christine Tan to Senior Portfolio Manager and Chief Compliance Officer at Excel Investment Counsel Inc., a subsidiary of Excel Funds.

"She has consistently demonstrated impressive talent for managing emerging market portfolios, evidenced in particular by the superior performance of the Excel Emerging Markets Fund which she has been managing since January 1, 2013. The year-to-date performance of the Excel Emerging Markets Fund as at June 30, 2015 is 13.1%, a full 5% higher than its peer group average," adds Mr. Asdhir.
In her new role, Ms. Tan will remain portfolio manager of the Excel Emerging Markets Fund and will take on additional responsibility as portfolio manager of the Excel Blue Chip Equity Fund, Excel Blue Chip Balanced Fund, Excel BRIC Fund and Excel Chindia Fund, which were previously managed by Mr. David Kunselman, whom she replaces as Senior Portfolio Manager.
Ms. Tan, who joined Excel Investment Counsel Inc. in September, 2012, has over 13 years experience in the financial services industry. Prior to joining Excel , she was Vice President and Portfolio Manager at Gluskin Sheff + Associates in Toronto, a pre-eminent wealth manager serving high net worth private clients and institutional investors, where she co-managed a top-quartile $1.3 billion Canadian equity portfolio.
Ms. Tan started her career with CIBC Wood Gundy in Edmonton and subsequently became an investment banker with TD Securities in Toronto, focusing primarily on mergers and acquisitions. Her experience and in-depth knowledge of emerging markets is complemented by her extensive travel and numerous due diligence trips. She speaks several languages, including Mandarin, Cantonese and Malay.
When managing money, Ms. Tan uses a disciplined bottom-up growth at a reasonable price ("GARP") approach to generate strong risk adjusted returns for investors. She holds a Masters of Business Administration from the Schulich School of Business and an Honours Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Alberta. She is also a CFA charter holder.
