Chips Bounced, Builders Sank and Crude Sent Mixed Signals Heading Into Tuesday

NEW YORK, Oct. 20, 2026 /CNW/ -- Technology stocks led a partial recovery on Monday after last week's AI-driven selloff. The Nasdaq Composite rose about 1.1%, the S&P 500 gained about 0.4% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped less than 0.1%, according to TheStreet. Underneath the index moves, Monday split cleanly by theme: memory chips and AI infrastructure bounced, homebuilders fell after a 14-year low in builder confidence, and the two main crude benchmarks moved in opposite directions. The headline names will dominate Tuesday's coverage, but several smaller companies sit directly in the path of each of these stories. Active Companies from around the markets with current developments this week include: DHT Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: DHT), Penguin Solutions, Inc. (NASDAQ: PENG), LGI Homes, Inc. (NASDAQ: LGIH), Redwire Corporation (NYSE: RDW), Applied Digital Corporation (NASDAQ: APLD).

Monday's tech bounce was led by memory and cloud names. Two major U.S.-listed memory makers rose between roughly 3% and 5.5%, a megacap cloud leader climbed about 5% after an analyst raised its price target, and semiconductor stocks broadly recovered part of Friday's losses, according to Stock Analysis data and TheStreet.

Oil was harder to read. West Texas Intermediate's November contract settled up $2.25 at $103.66 a barrel, its highest close since September 15, in trading that market reports said was distorted by the contract's expiry on Tuesday. Brent slipped 31 cents to $109.55 after President Trump signed an executive order on Friday exempting some sanctions and tariffs on Russian energy exports. Houthi forces claimed new attacks on Saudi energy and airport sites, which Saudi authorities did not immediately confirm, and at least 10 incidents involving commercial vessels were reported near the Strait of Hormuz last week.

Housing took the other side. The NAHB/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index fell 3 points to 29 in October, its lowest reading since June 2012. Builders reported buyer traffic at its lowest level since April 2012, and 43% of builders cut prices, the highest share in the 2020-2026 period, according to the National Association of Home Builders, which pointed to higher mortgage rates, elevated construction costs and weaker consumer confidence. Homebuilder stocks fell broadly, and bank stocks also lagged as the group continued to work through last week's mixed earnings.

Tuesday's calendar includes third-quarter reports from a major aerospace engine maker before the open and from a streaming leader and the space sector's largest newly public company after the close, with several of the largest technology companies reporting on Wednesday.

In other industry developments and happenings in the market this week include:

DHT Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: DHT)

For tanker owners, the Middle East disruption is showing up in day rates. DHT said in an October 12 business update that, for the fourth quarter to date, about 50% of its available VLCC spot days are booked at an average of about $509,100 per day on a discharge-to-discharge basis, and that about 78% of all available fourth-quarter revenue days are booked at an estimated average of about $225,200 per day. For the third quarter, the company estimated fleet time-charter equivalent earnings of about $141,300 per day on 2,055 revenue days.

In September, DHT also fixed the 2016-built VLCC DHT Panther on a three-year time charter at $100,000 per day with a global energy company, expected to start in October 2026. The shares slipped 2.42% on Monday to $23.03, a day when Brent eased.

Penguin Solutions, Inc. (NASDAQ: PENG)

Penguin Solutions, which sells memory and AI infrastructure systems, reported on October 6 record fourth-quarter fiscal 2026 net sales of $567 million, up 68% from a year earlier, with Integrated Memory segment sales of $340.8 million compared with $132.2 million a year earlier. Fiscal 2026 net sales reached $1.73 billion, up 26%.

The company guided fiscal 2027 net sales to approximately $2.43 billion at the midpoint, growth of approximately 40%, plus or minus 10 percentage points, and said it established a new supply arrangement with a leading memory supplier to support growing AI-driven memory demand in the data center. The shares did not join Monday's memory rally, easing 0.98% to $56.54 after a 7.69% drop on Friday.

LGI Homes, Inc. (NASDAQ: LGIH)

LGI Homes reported on October 5 that it closed 386 homes in September, up 9.0% from 354 a year earlier, and 1,222 homes in the third quarter, up 10.4% from 1,107. It had 151 active selling communities at September 30.

Those closings ran higher even as builder sentiment fell, and the stock was not spared on Monday, dropping 4.51% to $41.07 after the NAHB report. LGI Homes will release third-quarter results before the market opens on November 3, with a conference call at 12:30 p.m. ET.

Redwire Corporation (NYSE: RDW)

As the space sector heads into a busy earnings week, Redwire has hardware in orbit-bound cargo. The company said the fourth and final pair of its ROSA solar array wings for the International Space Station launched on NASA's CRS-35 commercial resupply mission, completing a power modernization effort in which six Redwire-built wings have been deployed on the station since 2021. Redwire says each wing provides more than 20 kilowatts of power for over 10 years after deployment.

On October 5, Axiom Space awarded Redwire a follow-on contract for two ROSA wings for its station's second module, and in September the company was named one of 15 vendors on a Space Systems Command contract vehicle valued at more than $980 million, which Redwire noted carries no guaranteed revenue. The shares rose 0.83% on Monday to $8.46.

Applied Digital Corporation (NASDAQ: APLD)

Applied Digital builds data center campuses for AI workloads, and its Polaris Forge 1 campus in North Dakota is leased to an AI cloud provider. For its fiscal first quarter ended August 31, the company reported revenue of $341.9 million, up 322% from a year earlier, and said it has leases for approximately 1.41 gigawatts of critical IT load across five campuses, representing approximately $36 billion of contracted revenue over their initial base terms.

Polaris Forge 1 reached 250 megawatts of fully operational critical IT load with an October 1 milestone, and the company expects delivered load across its North Dakota campuses to reach 300 megawatts by the end of calendar 2026. It also secured up to 1 gigawatt of potential power capacity in Finland, its first international market. The shares rose 6.65% on Monday to $19.25, after an 11.48% drop on Friday.
