Chefs of Toronto Showcase their Culinary Creations in the Heart of Toronto

TORONTO, Oct. 14 /CNW/ - The Escoffier Society of Toronto, a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of professional chefs and cooks, will be celebrating International Chefs Day on October 17, 2009 from 11 am to 3 pm at Yonge-Dundas Square in the heart of Toronto.

Toronto and area chefs will be featuring culinary samples featuring many local ingredients at $2 or $3 each with all proceeds to Second Harvest.

Toronto Mayor David Miller states: "Toronto is home to world class restaurants and extraordinary culinary talent. Events such as International Chefs Day give our city's residents and visitors the opportunity to enjoy delicious food while supporting Second Harvest, a charity that provides fresh food to approximately 250 social service programs in the Greater Toronto Area."

Companies generously donating their time and ingredients include Bustin' Loose BBQ, Foodland Ontario, Dairy Farmers of Ontario, Fresh Start Foods, Gordon Food Service, Highliner Foods, Holland Marsh Grower's Association, Humber College, Ruwan's Cake Art, Sheraton, Ste Anne's Spa, The Veg Company and Willogrove Hill Pork.

This commemorative day, established in 2004 by the World Association of Chefs Societies (WACS), is marked as a special occasion for culinarians to salute their profession and create awareness of chefs and cooks who have set remarkable industry standards for the art of cooking.
