Charlie Cipolla Elected as Chair; Peter Gregg Appointed to the Board of The Electrical Safety Authority
MISSISSAUGA, ON, Sept. 24, 2013 /CNW/ - The Electrical Safety Authority's (ESA's) Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Charlie Cipolla has been elected Chair. He succeeds John Wiersma who is retiring from the Board after serving nine years, the last six as Chair. Cipolla has been on the ESA Board since 2006 and Vice Chair since December, 2012. Previously he served as Chair of the Human Resources and Investment, and Pension Committees.
The ESA Board is also pleased to announce that Peter Gregg, Chief Operating Officer of Hydro One has been appointed as a Director, filling the seat vacated as a result of Wiersma's retirement.
"I am honoured to become ESA's Chair and look forward to working closely with my fellow directors, and ESA's management and staff on our mission of improving electrical safety in Ontario," said Cipolla. "ESA's Board is dedicated to regulatory and governance leadership and I will be proud to continue that commitment and follow John's impressive legacy."

Cipolla is a Past President of Rockwell Automation Canada (formerly Allen Bradley Canada Limited) where he worked for more than 30 years. He also served as President and Director of "W" Interconnections Canada Inc. Cipolla is active on a number of boards and professional associations including: Chair of the Board of Gore Mutual Insurance Company; Chair of the Board of Cambridge and North Dumfries Hydro; and Director, Hammant Manufacturing Inc. Past roles include: Standards Council of Canada Board of Directors, Chair of Electro-Federation of Canada Inc., Chair of the Economic Development Advisory Committee of the City of Cambridge, Ontario; Board of Directors, Cambridge Chamber of Commerce; and serving on the taxation and industry committees of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, among other roles.
Cipolla holds a Bachelor of Arts from Wilfrid Laurier University, the Chartered Accountant's designation from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario, and is a Certified Corporate Director from the Institute of Corporate Directors.
Peter Gregg is the Chief Operating Officer at Hydro One Networks with accountability for all operating divisions of Hydro One, ensuring effective power distribution across the province of Ontario. Peter leads a workforce of over 5,000 employees and is responsible for a budget of more than $2 billion. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Workplace Safety and Prevention Services. Prior to his current role, Gregg held various senior-level roles at Hydro One and at Canada's largest airport, Toronto Pearson, during its major infrastructure development phase. He also previously served on Parliament Hill as a senior advisor to Canada's federal Minister of Transport.
Gregg holds a Master's of Business Administration from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario and the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors.
About the Electrical Safety Authority
The Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) is an administrative authority acting on behalf of the Government of Ontario with specific responsibilities under the Electricity Act and the Safety and Consumer Statutes Administration Act.
