Celebrated Australian Actress will 'Do Anything for Love' in new comedic web series
LOS ANGELES, Nov. 18, 2013 /CNW/ - Actress Michele Ricketts, one of Australia's most gifted and uprising talents to watch, is announcing she is starring as Heather in "I'd Do Anything for Love," a new comedy web series.
Set in Los Angeles and pitched as "Sex and the City" meets "30 Rock," the series follows Heather, a 20-something nurse and hopeless romantic who focuses her life's effort on a seemingly never-ending search for love.
"She's a relatable protagonist looking for love," Ricketts said. "She's made a career out of it. It's a comedic look at what length we go to for love and how we morph into those we love. It looks at what really makes people tick."
Ricketts, 27, wrote the pilot and her own MR Productions is producing. Josh Mawer is directing. Co-starring are Lauren Augarten, Stephanie Begg, Sam Haft and Pru Vindin.
The pilot is shooting now in Australia. The remainder of season one's episodes, formatted for 30 to 45 minutes each, are slated to shoot in Los Angeles in 2014. It will premiere on YouTube in 2014 and an official release date is forthcoming.
The series opens with a look into the wacky things Heather attempts to gain love. Open minded and eager, but misfiring in her methods, Heather engages the advice of friends in her international social circle who work in advertising, media and day jobs. They offer differing perspectives and dating tips, which set the stage for Heather's humorous misadventure for love.
"I come from quite a strong comedic acting background," Ricketts says. "That definitely lends itself to this role. Heather needs to be someone who has lived, someone who has done what she's done and strived to go after love in crazy ways."
A combo film-television-theatre talent, Ricketts' film credits include Filmgraphics Entertainment's "Cobalt," Vandemot's "Broken" and "Awakened" and NIDA's "America the Great."
She has acted in leading roles of Kid's Club productions at the New Theatre, the oldest theatre company in New South Wales, Australia that's featured continuous production since 1932. Her credits there include "Kid's Club Christmas," "Kid's Club Halloween," "Kid's Club Fairy Tale," "Kid's Club Super Heroes" and "Kid's Club Howloween."
Ricketts has acted as Stell in "Forging Ahead," Juliet in "A Night of Shakespeare" and Charlotte in "Australian Playwrights" at the renowned Actors Centre Australia.
