CBSA officers at Montréal-Trudeau Airport make three significant drug seizures

MONTREAL, Aug. 16, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers at the Montréal-Trudeau Airport have made three significant drug seizures during the last week: two cocaine seizures and one Catha edulis (khat) seizure.

A first seizure was made on August 10, 2012, when 3.8 kilos of cocaine were found in candle holders that were in the possession of a traveller arriving on a flight from the Dominican Republic.

On August 13, border services officers also seized 3 kilos of cocaine concealed in the false bottom of the suitcase of a traveller arriving from Haiti.

The same day, another individual arriving from London was intercepted with two suitcases that contained 25 kilos of Catha edulis.

CBSA officers placed the individuals under arrest and handed them over to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, who is pursuing the investigation.

"These seizures demonstrate that our officers work tirelessly to prevent the importation of illicit drugs into Canada, regardless of the country of source", said Benoît Chiquette, CBSA Regional Director General for Quebec.

From January 1 to August 13, 2012, CBSA officers at Montréal-Trudeau Airport made 192 drug seizures. During this same period, border services officers in the Quebec Region made a total of 1,094 drug seizures.
