WINNIPEG, Aug. 16 /CNW/ - Cargill Limited was announced as the Foundation Partner for the Canadian Cattlemen's Association new youth initiative called the Cattlemen's Young Leaders (CYL) Development Program at the International Livestock Congress last week in Calgary, AB.
The CYL program, announced by the CCA in July, provides industry specific training and mentorship opportunities to producers between the ages of 18 and 35. CYL participants will have the opportunity to explore a potential career choice or involvement with a provincial/national producer organization, while gaining the expertise and business acumen necessary to sustain the cattle industry into the future.
"Cargill is honored to have the opportunity to be the Foundation Partner of the Cattlemen's Young Leaders Partner Program. We appreciate the value and the relationship that we currently have and will continue to build with the CCA," said Scott Entz, general manager of Cargill Meat Solutions High River.
In addition to offering mentorships to interested applicants, Cargill is providing financial support of $70,000 over the next three years that will raise the program to a national level. "We value Cargill's commitment in the development of future young leaders in the Canadian Beef Industry. The Cattlemen's Young Leaders Development Program will benefit greatly from the depth of knowledge and support this foundation partnership will bring," said Travis Toews, president of the Canadian Cattlemen's Association.
The funding is being provided by the Cargill Cares program and five business units including Cargill Meat Solutions (Cargill High River and Guelph), Cargill Value Added Meats, Cargill Animal Nutrition and AgriBrands Purina Canada Inc.
"We recognize the amount of value a program such as this one can and will have on impacting the future of the Canadian Beef industry. We see this as a long term investment - investing in the education of our youth is something that Cargill will continue to stand proudly behind," said Entz.
