Sights set on meeting April 1 launch date
TORONTO, March 8, 2019 /CNW/ - As the Ontario cannabis retail lottery winners scramble to meet all deliverables for the April 1 deadline, a London retailer has been granted one of the province's first retail operator licenses to sell recreational cannabis. Chris Comrie is among the first of the 25 licensees to successfully meet this significant milestone, and is on track to meet the April 1 launch date. Comrie is very pleased to be working with Ontario Cannabis Holdings Corp ("OCH"), who are serving as advisors to Comrie throughout this process.
"We have done this before with great success, so we were happy to engage with Chris to help navigate the rapidly changing rules and regulations set forth by the Ontario government," said Jon Conquergood, President and CEO of OCH.
With a significant and successful track record in cannabis retail in Canada, OCH brings a depth of experience to the industry as the founders of NewLeaf Cannabis in Alberta (since sold in September 2018), which to date is Canada's largest chain of retail cannabis stores. The success the OCH executive team achieved in Alberta was due to an ongoing, cooperative interaction with the Provincial regulator and numerous municipalities across Alberta. Providing advice and policy proposals helped establish the team as a go-to resource for guidance in the emerging cannabis industry.
"Shortly after winning the Ontario cannabis retail lottery, I travelled to Calgary to see firsthand what the OCH executive team had accomplished in terms of retail success with NewLeaf, and it was quickly apparent that their experience was unmatched in the industry," said Comrie. "They had twice as many licensed stores as the next-largest brand in a very competitive market, and their approach to this growing industry and business strategy was a perfect fit for me and my store's success."
Comrie anticipates opening Central Cannabis, potentially one of the first cannabis retail stores in Ontario, at 666 Wonderland Road, London Ontario on April 1, 2019.
OCH is also currently engaged with an additional license lottery winner to provide the same or similar services towards establishing a successful store launch in the near future.
