Canadians Surf their way to Savings on Boxing Day 2012

Bargainmoose shopping tool helps consumers secure bargains in Boxing Day sales

WINNIPEG, Dec. 20, 2012 /CNW/ - Boxing Day Sales are a North American tradition that have long provided Canadians the opportunity to save on big ticket items. As the deals have gone digital, the wealth of information available can be overwhelming to the average Canadian shopper.  To help alleviate the shopping agonies, Bargainmoose.ca has launched the 2012 version of their shopping tool, the Boxing Day dashboard, to compile Boxing Day sale information from across the web.

According to a Bargainmoose poll regarding Christmas shopping habits in 2011, 73% of those who carried out shopping during the Boxing Day sales did so online. This figure is expected to increase this year, as site traffic to the site has grown exponentially over the last 12 months.

"Boxing Day is the ultimate shopping day of the year. If you are on a budget, or just want good value for your money, this is the day to shop. Get a head start on birthdays, anniversaries, and all those other gifting occasions in the coming year. "

In an effort to break the Boxing Day deals first, BargainMoose PR Manager Eleanor Salinas has been reaching out to top Canadian stores to gather information on the upcoming deals.  "Some stores are keeping their Boxing Day deals top secret and won't give out any information whatsoever," she says. "However, some retailers who we work with regularly are letting us know some of the items they will have on offer."

Despite the rise in shopping holidays like Black Friday and Cyber Monday, a 2011 study by Visa suggests Canadians still favour boxing day. Researchers found that nearly a quarter of Canadians planned to spend an average of $240 on Boxing Day Sales.
