Canadians Invited to Double Their Impact During Rally for Rheumatology

National matched-giving campaign aims to raise $93,500 for research, education and innovation in rheumatology

TECUMSEH, ON, Sept. 1, 2026 /CNW/ -- Millions of Canadians live with arthritis and other rheumatic diseases that can cause chronic pain, inflammation, disability and uncertainty. While advances in treatment have improved countless lives, many patients still face delayed diagnoses, limited access to specialists and diseases for which there are no cures.

This September, the Canadian Rheumatology Association Foundation (CRAF) is inviting Canadians to Rally for Rheumatology, a national matched-giving campaign supporting research, education, and innovation in rheumatology.

The campaign aims to raise $93,500, with donations eligible to be matched by participating Rally Champions, rheumatologists and community supporters, helping every contribution go even further. Canadians can get involved by becoming a Rally Champion, organizing a fundraiser, supporting a Champion's campaign, or making a direct donation.

"While we have effective therapies for several rheumatic diseases, we still do not have cures, and in some cases, we do not yet have good treatment options," said Dr. Ahmad Zbib, Executive Director of CRAF. "Research gives us hope. Every breakthrough, every new treatment and every future specialist begins with investment. Donations to CRAF help advance discoveries and training that will improve care for Canadians living with rheumatic diseases."

The need for progress remains significant. Arthritis is one of Canada's most common chronic diseases, affecting more than six million Canadians. At the same time, demand for rheumatology care continues to grow as researchers work to better understand and treat more than 100 rheumatic diseases.

"Systemic autoimmune rheumatic diseases are often underrecognized but have major impact," said rheumatologist Dr. Stephanie Tom, Canadian Rheumatology Association (CRA) President. "I am doing the Rally again to support research and education for my patients and their families for a better tomorrow."

Last year's inaugural campaign raised more than $85,000, thanks to the support of 15 Rally Champions and 169 donors. This year, CRAF hopes to build on that momentum and inspire even more Canadians to invest in the future of rheumatology.
