OAKVILLE, ON, Sept. 1, 2015 /CNW/ - After a nation-wide vote, Canada has selected 'French Toast Deluxe' and 'Mint Brownie Cheesecake' as the two donuts to be sold in Tim Hortons restaurants across Canada for a limited time in spring 2016. Tim Hortons Duelling Donuts contest drew tens of thousands of entries from across Canada and included an eight-finalist showdown in front of a celebrity panel of judges and a national vote.
'French Toast Deluxe' was created by David Maguire of Wolfville, Nova Scotia. His donut is a cruller with maple crème filling, dark chocolate icing and maple drizzle, topped with pecans. David hopes his donut will bring new meaning to donuts for breakfast, saying his inspiration came from a love of all things maple.
'Mint Brownie Cheesecake' was created by Corrie Repko of Oshawa, Ontario. Her creation features a chocolate donut with cheesecake filling, mint icing and chocolate drizzle, topped with brownie crumble. Corrie says the inspiration for her donut came from three recipes that she has enjoyed making for loved ones for years.
When the donuts become available in Tim Hortons restaurants next spring, Canadians will vote again: this time with their taste buds! The most popular donut among guests will be crowned the Duelling Donuts champion and its creator will receive $10,000.
"Congratulations to David and Corrie. Not only are 'French Toast Deluxe' and 'Mint Brownie Cheesecake' incredibly unique recipes, they also taste fantastic," says David Clanachan, President & COO, Tim Hortons Canada. "Like the donuts' creators and the thousands of Canadians who voted for them, the team at Tim Hortons is very excited for these two donuts to make their debut on our menu next spring."
