FRASERVILLE, ON, Sept. 23, 2013 /CNW/ - Today at Kawartha Speedway, Scott Steckly completed the final leg of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series season finale, finishing first and proudly sporting the red triangle on the hood of the #22 Canadian Tire Dodge. With the finish, Steckly and his team bring home the Champion's trophy for the third time in six seasons.
"The Canadian Tire Dodge performed very well tonight," said Scott. We came here to win the pole, lead the most laps and win. We knew what we had to do and with the help of my team we were able to do just that."
During time trials, the Milverton, Ontario racer lapped the high-banked 3/8-mile oval in 17,806 seconds 75.817mph good enough for their fourth pole of the 2013 season.
The driver of the #22 Canadian Tire Dodge was careful to protect his car in the early going and led the first 78 laps. After pit stops he restarted mid pack and had to use patience as he progressed through the field back to the front. With less than 50 laps to go Steckly took over the lead for the final time and cruised to victory. "This is just an incredible feeling," said Steckly on his third NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Championship. "My team is phenomenal and they keep working to give me incredible cars. I can't thank all of our sponsors enough either. We wouldn't be here without them."
During the championship presentation, Steckly and the #22 Dodge team were joined in the victory lane by Andrew Davis, Vice President, Automotive for Canadian Tire.
"On behalf of Canadian Tire I'd like to congratulate Scott and his team on a phenomenal performance in this race and throughout the entire series," said Andrew Davies, Vice President, Automotive, Canadian Tire. "Scott is a great asset to the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series and to the sport of racing in Canada. We have enjoyed cheering Scott on throughout the Series and are thrilled to congratulate him on another Championship!"
The race for the 2013 series kicked-off at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park on May 19. Steckly got off to a slow start in the season however captured the fastest qualifying time at the Delaware Speedway on June 15 and continued on to place top five in seven races, capturing first in three consecutive outings and taking the fastest qualifying round in another three. This set the bar high for Steckly who was only five points behind D.J. Kennington heading into the final race.
The Pinty's 250 will air on TSN/TSN2 on Sun. Oct. 6 at 5:30 p.m. and on RDS/RDS2 on Fri. Oct. 18 at 9 p.m.
