TORONTO
,
Dec. 17
/CNW/ - The Coalition for Tamil Elections
Canada
is conducting a referendum across major Canadian cities on
Saturday, December 19, 2009
, from
9am
to
9pm
to verify the collective consensus of Tamil Canadians, in regards to a viable democratic solution in their homeland.
As witnessed by fellow Canadians earlier this year, the Tamil Canadians, the largest amongst them are the Tamil Community from the Island of
Sri Lanka
, hit the streets in major cities in
Canada
. They were pleading for help to save their relatives from the brutal war in
Sri Lanka
. According to reliable reports over 20,000 of them perished in the first two weeks of
May 2009
alone.
Moving forward to reaffirm the political destiny of their relatives and promote human rights and democratic values that should be respected in
Sri Lanka
, thousands of Canadian Tamils are expected to hit the polling stations across the country and cast their votes in this history making event. The polling will be conducted with the assistance of a reputable Canadian Company.
Coalition for Tamil Elections
Canada
has been created to fulfill the needs of the Tamil Canadians to gather surveys, conduct opinion polls, elections and referendums amongst them. Throughout the evolution of this democratic and electoral process, the officials and volunteers will be working hard to bring about maximum fairness and transparency in order to ensure the prevalence of democratic values.
