VICTORIA, Jan. 8, 2013 /CNW/ - TicTalking.com, an interest-based social network that connects people around their 'Things In Common', is taking New Media Expo in Las Vegas by storm.
The company used the event - the world's largest conference for bloggers and social media pros - to launch a contest with a prize of plane tickets anywhere in the world.
"The response was overwhelming," said TicTalking CEO Peter Nieforth. "Everyone I spoke with was excited by our platform, and they acknowledged that we were definitely on to something big. That's great validation for our company."
Social Media Monthly - a leading industry publication - featured TicTalking in their January issue with a centre-spread profile on the growth of interest-based social networks.
TicTalking co-founder and CEO Peter Nieforth attended New Media Expo (formerly known as BlogWorld), introducing the company and the contest to some of the most influential bloggers and online personalities in the world.
"New Media Expo is the largest gathering of bloggers, podcasters and social business professionals - which put TicTalking in front of thousands of industry leaders," said Nieforth.
Marla Schulman, Founder and Chief Idea Officer of the digital marketing agency, DvinIdeas, offered her thoughts on the future success of the platform.
"What makes this platform compelling is the ease in which you can find, aggregate, and curate content by your personal or professional interests. But even more exciting, is TicTalking's translation feature which tears down language barriers and opens up millions more information sources and social connections to users around the world."
Schulman, a 25-year veteran of both traditional and online media added, "I've already signed up and look forward to tapping into those worldwide sources and connections."
TicTalking.com, based in Victoria, B.C., has been steadily building a great reputation in media in Canada and around the world.
A profile in Victoria print media last summer helped introduce the company as a sponsor of Social Media Camp, one of Canada's premier social media conferences.
Chris Burdge, co-founder of Social Media Camp, worked with TicTalking in 2012, including at an Economic Summit in Nanaimo headlined by Bank of Canada Governor Mark Carney and B.C. Premier Christy Clark.
"Interest-based networks are going to lead the growth in this industry," said Burdge. "TicTalking is carving out a unique space, and they're definitely a company to watch."
A guest column about TicTalking's investment opportunity as an Eligible Business Corporation ran in media outlets across the country last fall.
TicTalking has plans for a full-featured Beta release in mid-February. The site is currently open to all users, and is developing and growing daily.
