TORONTO, June 6, 2013 /CNW/ - Kensington, a division of ACCO Brands Canada, has developed the most effective rescue package on the market for wet electronic devices: EVAP. In just 6 to 24 hours, the rescue pouch can recover a smart phone, or other small device, from accidental water damage. EVAP is the only product that uses 60 grams of high-grade molecular sieve, featuring APG, an industry leading absorbent material.
Research by Kensington indicates 2 out of 3 people will experience water damage to their smartphone, and with 6.8 billion smartphone users in the world this is good news for those who would otherwise see their precious data washed away in a split second. Most water accidents occur at home and the vast majority of smartphone users have not backed up their contacts, photos, and other sensitive information.
"We know that it's not only the cost of replacing the phone that's a big issue for users, but the loss of important data and the disconnect from your contacts which can sometimes be devastating," says George Foot, vice president Global Marketing & Product Development for Kensington. "Also, if the phone is sent to a repair shop, it often takes three to five days - that's a long, phone-less time for busy people. Not to mention the time it takes to research and re-enter all the data."
EVAP: Lab tested and true
EVAP is lab tested and is seven times more absorbent than rice. It can rescue cell phones, smart phones, PDAs, cameras, video cameras, remote controls, video game devices, MP3 players and even small devices like hearing aids that often suffer water damage.
As soon as the device hits the water, it should be removed, dried with a cloth and switched off. Prior to placing the wet device into the Rescue Pouch, remove the SIM card and battery if possible, then towel dry all items before continuing. The wet device should then be placed between the two vacuum-sealed EVAP Tyvek pouches and then into the larger Rescue Pouch. After the device is sealed in the bag, a humidity indicator will change colour within 6-24 hours to signify the rescue operation is complete.
High Grade Molecular Sieve
Each Tyvek pouch contains APG High Grade Molecular Sieve, an industry leading absorbent material that holds a larger capacity and has a faster absorption speed for removal of CO2 & H20. Molecular sieves are crystalline metal alumino silicate minerals that have potent drying capacities because they contain very small holes of precise and uniform size, blocking large molecules but allowing small molecules to pass. FDA approved since April 2012, sodium aluminosilicate (sodium silicoaluminate) can safely be used in contact with consumable items.
