TORONTO, June 12, 2014 /CNW/ - The Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) is pleased to announce that Sean Kelly APR, FCPRS, Manager of Public Relations, Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board (St. John's) became the 58th national president of CPRS during the Society's 2014 Annual General Meeting in Banff, Alberta on May 25, the first day of the three-day CPRS National Summit.
Reneé McCloskey, APR, Manager of External Relations, Regional District of Fraser-Fort George (Prince George) was elected as vice-president and treasurer. Past-president Richard Truscott MBA, APR, Director of Provincial Affairs, Canadian Federation of Independent Business (Calgary) will remain on the Board of Directors for another year.
Newly elected to serve three-year terms on the CPRS Board of Directors are Kim Blanchette, APR (Calgary) and Sarah Milner MBA, APR (Victoria). Angela Murray (Halifax) and Rashpal Rai, APR (Burnaby) were re-elected for another term. Returning members of the board include: Dana Dean, APR (Toronto) Robert W. Ellis APR, FCPRS, L.M (Regina), Joanne Fortin APR, FCPRS (Montréal), Everett Martin (Montréal) and Carol Panasiuk APR, FCPRS LM (Toronto).
In his role as Vice President, Treasurer Kelly reported that the society's financial position is strong. Membership revenue remained consistent with the previous year; however revenue in the area of professional development was lower than originally budgeted. Kelly emphasized that prudent and responsible financial management will remain a priority of the Board in the coming year.
The Society also hosted its fourth annual Presidents' Council meeting during the Summit which brought together 25 leaders from the National and local Societies for a full day program on issues facing the public relations profession and CPRS.
"We are proud to say that some of Canada's top industry leaders are among our membership and many of them are active at the national and international level," Kelly said. "CPRS will continue to work hard to reaffirm its status as a distinct Canadian association formed to advance the professional stature of public relations and communications management and foster the professional interests of its members."
More than 300 delegates attended the National Summit in Banff, Alberta.
