Canadian Paramedics Mourn the Loss of Two British Columbia Ambulance Service

CALGARY, Oct. 22 /CNW/ - The tragic death of Paramedic Jo-Ann Fuller and Paramedic Ivan Polivka has a profound effect on the Emergency Medical Services community across Canada. President Michael Nolan, on behalf of the Emergency Medical Services Chiefs of Canada (EMSCC), expressed deepest sympathies to the families, coworkers and the communities affected by this tragic loss.
On the morning of October 19th, 2010, while performing their duties, Jo-Ann Fuller, Tofino's Unit Chief and a 23-year veteran of the profession and her partner, Ivan Polivka, a 14-year veteran of the profession, perished as a result of their vehicle leaving Highway 4 between Port Alberni and Tofino. "The communities served by these two outstanding individuals will sorely miss their compassionate and skilled approach to providing excellent paramedic care", President Nolan stated.
"This tragic incident is a reminder of the risks Paramedics encounter each and every day while responding to calls for help from Canadians in their greatest time of need. The profession of Canadian Emergency Medical Services across the country, mourns this sad loss, " added Nolan.
Emergency Medical Services Chiefs of Canada (EMSCC) is the organization representing mobile health care services existing at the centre of Canadian Communities. Its membership comprises chief operating officers of EMS services, both large and small, across Canada and their teams. Founded in 2002, the EMSCC objective is to advance and align EMS leadership in Canada and to operate as a forum for information gathering, policy development and advocacy for EMS systems in Canada.
