TORONTO, March 4 /CNW/ - Corona and LCBO customers raised $20,000 for the Red Cross Haiti Relief Fund. Throughout February, Corona committed to donating 50 cents from every six-pack of Corona Extra and Corona Light sold at LCBO stores to the Red Cross Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund. Ontario residents responded to Corona's call to action with an overwhelming response, helping raise $20,000 in donations.
"We are thrilled with the response from consumers and would like to thank them for their support throughout this fundraising initiative," said Robert Armstrong, President and CEO of Modelo Molson Imports. "Engaging Canadians and partnering with the LCBO have made this donation possible."
Haiti faces a long and difficult road ahead. It is with the support of Canadians and corporations that will help to rebuild this country in the long term and address the persistent public health crisis in the short term.
"Ontarians give generously when others are affected by natural disasters," said Bob Peter, LCBO President and CEO. "Corona deserves to be commended for this initiative which gave LCBO customers another opportunity to support the much needed relief efforts in Haiti."
According to John Saunders of the Canadian Red Cross Society, $20,000 will help the organization continue to provide for immediate needs including shelter, clean water and medical support as well as address longer-term needs of the affected communities as they begin to rebuild and recover.
