MONTREAL, April 27, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - The Canadian Cancer Society — Quebec Division, is proud to announce that the Daffodil Ball, a glamorous event held last night in Montreal with Alice in Wonderland as its theme and attended by 700 prestigious guests has raised $1.67 million, which will be used in the fight against cancer.
For several years, the Daffodil Ball has been one of the most prestigious annual black-tie events in Quebec and Canada. The cream of Canadian society and the business world was present at Windsor Station for this sumptuous dinner-dance in which around 30,000 daffodils - the symbol of the Canadian Cancer Society - featured as the main element in the magical decor of the evening.
Jacynthe Côté, Chief Executive, Rio Tinto Alcan; Paul Pathy, President and Co-CEO, Fednav Limited; and Calin Rovinescu, President and CEO, Air Canada, acted as Co-Chairpersons of this 19th Daffodil Ball. They pointed out that this fundraising activity is the most important benefit gala for the fight against cancer in Canada, with proceeds that hover more than 23 million dollars collected since 1994.
The money raised by the Canadian Cancer Society's Daffodil Ball will go directly to fund promising research projects, provide services and support to people living with cancer, offer up-to-date information on cancer, help prevent this disease by promoting healthy lifestyle habits, and lead successful advocacy efforts.
The Canadian Cancer Society's Daffodil Ball is supported by various sponsors, notably Air Canada, CAE, Fednav Limited, Sun Life Financial, McCall MacBain Foundation, IBM, Power Corporation of Canada, PricewaterhouseCoopers, RBC, Rio Tinto Alcan, and Sanofi.
The Canadian Cancer Society fights the disease by doing all it can to prevent cancer, save lives, and support people living with the disease. To learn more about cancer, please visit cancer.ca or call our toll-free and bilingual Cancer Information Service at 1 888 939-3333.
