Native drum inspires Alberta flood relief song
TORONTO, Aug. 14, 2013 /CNW/ - Alberta's devastating spring flood has inspired a collaborative new flood relief song by award-winning Canadian singer/songwriter, Sean Hogan and Friends. The purpose of the universally embraceable tune is to raise awareness and funds for Treaty 7 First Nations in Southern Alberta still coping with flood damage.
Hogan was moved by a newscast he saw on June 23 from Siksika Nation in the Canadian Badlands of southeastern Alberta. The footage showed 300 houses under water and 1,000 people left homeless, but it was traditional drummer Leonard Bearshirt's story of how he managed to grab his drum before fleeing his mother's home that got to Hogan, who began his own music career on drums.
Over 24 musicians from across Canada and the US have contributed to the final recording of Come Hell or High Water (See What Love Can Do) including Bearshirt, who Hogan met while on tour to witness the devastation of the Siksika Nation community first hand. The new song can be downloaded for just $1.19 via http://seanhogan.net/ with 100% net sale proceeds going to Treaty 7 First Nations flood relief in Southern Alberta. The single release is supported by a music video shot on location at Siksika Nation, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yhnx9D0rHFA
Come Hell or High Water (See What Love can Do) will be performed LIVE by Sean Hogan with Leonard Bearshirt and the Spirit Horse band and dancers on stage at Thursday's free Alberta Flood Aid "Boots on Stage" concert and festival in the east parking lot of McMahon Stadium in Calgary, Aug. 15, from 2:30- 5:30pm. http://abfloodaid.ca/event/details/bootson-stage-pre-festival/
