Canada and Quebec support improved water infrastructure in the Chaudière-Appalaches region

SAINTE-CLOTILDE-DE-BEAUCE, QC, July 18, 2018 /CNW/ - The governments of Canada and Quebec are safeguarding public health and helping protect the province's waterways by investing in projects to ensure that water and wastewater systems are up to date and efficient. These investments will also help communities meet their increasing capacity needs while contributing to job creation and economic growth in the region.

The Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, and Paul Busque, Member of the National Assembly for Beauce‑Sud, announced an investment of nearly $157,000 under the Clean Water and Wastewater Fund for the sanitary sewer system extension on Route 271 and Avenue des Entreprises in Sainte-Clotilde-de-Beauce.

The Government of Canada is investing $94,500 in this project and the Government of Quebec is providing $62,370. The Municipality will provide the remainder of the funding to bring the total government and municipal investment to $189,000.

• Thanks to its base financial assistance rate of 83%, the Clean Water and Wastewater Fund is allowing municipalities to invest almost $800 million in infrastructure projects. Over the period of 2016 to 2018, the federal government will provide $363.8 million and the provincial government will provide $300 million for a total joint investment of $664 million.
• Through the Investing in Canada infrastructure plan, the Government of Canada will invest more than $180 billion over 12 years in public transit projects, green infrastructure, social infrastructure, trade and transportation routes, and Canada's rural and northern communities.
• $26.9 billion of this funding will support green infrastructure projects, including $5 billion that will be available for investment through the Canada Infrastructure Bank.
• Quebec's 2018-2028 Infrastructure Plan calls for nearly $7.3 billion in investments in municipal infrastructure under the Quebec Department of Municipal Affairs and Land Occupancy. When combined with contributions from the Government of Canada and municipalities, this means over $14.3 billion will be invested in municipal infrastructure in Quebec over this period.
