Canada and New Brunswick invest in municipal infrastructure to boost housing growth in Beaurivage and active transportation in Grand Bouctouche
FrançaisBEAURIVAGE, NB, Oct. 15, 2026 /CNW/ -- The Government of Canada is using every tool at its disposal, leveraging technology, innovation and partnerships, to build homes at scale.
To that end, the Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, President of the King's Privy Council for Canada and Minister responsible for Canada-U.S. Trade, Intergovernmental Affairs, Internal Trade and One Canadian Economy, the Honourable Pat Finnigan, Minister of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries, the Honourable Gilles LePage, Minister of Environment and Climate Change and Minister responsible for the Regional Development Corporation, Her Worship Danielle Dugas, Mayor of the Town of Beaurivage, and Jean-Claude Babineau, Deputy Mayor of the Town of Grand Bouctouche, announced a joint investment of more than $7.1 million through the Provincial-Territorial stream of the Canada Housing Infrastructure Fund (CHIF) and the Active Transportation Fund for two projects that will improve essential infrastructure to support more housing in Beaurivage and upgrade active transportation in Grand Bouctouche.
In Beaurivage, water, sanitary sewer, and stormwater infrastructure will be extended along Cartier and Cunard Streets to support a new residential development. Work includes installing several hundreds of metres of watermain, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer, as well as restoring the roadway and sidewalks. These improvements will increase the community's capacity for future growth by enabling the future construction of up to 150 new housing units, 20 of which will be affordable units.
In the Town of Grand Bouctouche, an active transportation project will improve pedestrian safety in the town school zone by resurfacing and adding sidewalks along Rue du Parc (400 m), Rue Landry (200 m) and Rue de l'Église (120 m). It will also install three speed bumps and signage to slow traffic and improve safety for pedestrians, particularly students and people with limited mobility.
These types of important infrastructure projects support the Government of Canada's goal to build healthy, active communities, address the housing crisis, and complement the work of Build Canada Homes, a new federal agency that will build affordable houses, support builders with financing, and encourage better building methods.
Together, we will make housing more affordable by unleashing the power of public-private cooperation, catalysing a modern housing industry, and creating new careers in the skilled trades.
