TORONTO, April 16 /CNW/ - A Cambridge mother and her daughter are the winners of the $9,039,859 LOTTO 6/49 jackpot draw on April 10, 2010.
Irene Faria, 71, and Grace Martins, 39, of Cambridge have been playing LOTTO 6/49 as a pair for two years, and when they came to claim their prize at the Toronto Prize Centre on Friday, they said they were thrilled with their windfall.
"We were in shock when we found out how much we won," said Martins. "The clerk at the store was probably more excited than I was, because I was just in disbelief - and still am!"
When asked if they had any plans for their new found fortune, Martins replied that both she and her mother really want to help their very large family. Faria has six children, ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren aged five and eight.
"Our family is very close and we want to be able to help everyone out as much as we can," she said. "We're not thinking about fancy cars or expensive things - I'm happy with my house and what I have in life already. Family is more important to both of us."
Faria and Martins have been playing the same numbers every week, the same numbers that they received using QUICK PICK on their very first ticket two years ago.
"On behalf of Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, we'd like to congratulate Irene and Grace on their win," said Wendy Montgomery, VP of Lottery Marketing at OLG. "We're very happy that LOTTO 6/49 will allow them to help their family and help make some dreams come true."
The winning ticket was bought at Little Short Store on Water Street in Cambridge.
