Calgary Eye Surgery Facility Set for Explosive Growth
CALGARY, April 6 /CNW/ - Following a recent decision by Alberta Health Services to award 70 per cent of Calgary's non-hospital ophthalmologic surgical services to Surgical Centres Inc. (SCI), the respected facility has already begun its expansion plans. SCI will now offer surgical procedures to patients of 19 local ophthalmologists, up from nine surgeons previously. To accommodate the increase in annual procedures from 2,500 to more than 6,000, SCI currently has five operating theatres available, with a plan to open a newly consolidated state-of-the-art multi-theatre facility within a few weeks.
"We are very proud to be given this recognition and are extremely well positioned to meet the needs of Calgarians requiring eye surgery," said Dr. Mohamed Nanji, SCI Medical Director. "The good news is that this consolidation of services will allow more people to get procedures they need, while also reducing wait times."
Offering services for more than 20 years and having performed more than 35,000 ophthalmology procedures throughout Alberta and British Columbia, SCI has been able to accommodate new ophthalmologists within days of the announcement. Surgical Centres Inc. provides the best of two worlds to support a patient's personal preferences and their doctor's professional expectations. The facility provides flexibility in scheduling, options for operating procedures, and a full suite of modern equipment.
The majority of increased procedures offered by SCI will be cataract surgeries. "This is particularly important to effectively serve the needs of our aging population," said Dr. Nanji. "We have the capacity, the staff and the equipment to meet the expectations of our surgeons and their patients."
