CAA SCO members pick Canada as a top summer destination
THORNHILL, ON, June 29, 2016 /CNW/ - If you're dreaming about escaping the daily grind, packing up the car and hitting the open road this summer, you're not alone.
A recent Members Matter survey, conducted by CAA South Central Ontario (CAA SCO) reveals 54 per cent of our members are making vacation plans this summer. Thirty-six per cent are planning travel within Ontario, 24 per cent are choosing to explore other Canadian provinces while nearly a quarter are selecting the United States for their getaway. The poll also shows 61 per cent of those planning a vacation will travel by car.
Top 5 summer road trip destinations:
1. Ottawa, Ontario
2. Toronto, Ontario
3. Halifax, Nova Scotia
4. Vancouver, British Columbia
5. Orlando, Florida
"A lower Canadian dollar and slowing economy are contributing factors to why our members are deciding to stay closer to home this summer. We expect this trend to continue as next year marks the 150th anniversary of Confederation," said Silvana Aceto, Media Relations Consultant, CAA SCO.
The survey found 63 per cent of summer travellers have already booked their trip, but alarmingly only 31 per cent purchased travel insurance or intend to purchase it before leaving for vacation.
"If you are unsure about whether or not to buy travel insurance, just consider what could go wrong. An accident or illness while away on holiday can be costly and OHIP only provides limited coverage outside of Ontario," added Aceto.
The poll results are based on an online survey conducted in May 2016, among 3,102 randomly selected CAA SCO members. The margin of error for this study is +/- 1.76.
For over a hundred years, CAA has been helping Canadians stay mobile, safe and protected. CAA South Central Ontario is one of nine auto clubs across Canada providing roadside assistance, travel, insurance services and member savings for our 2 million members.
