Businesses Partner Together to Help Local Families in Need this Christmas Season

ACHESON, AB, Nov. 15, 2016 /CNW/ - Jandel Homes is partnering with other local businesses in an attempt to fill one of their show homes in Edmonton and in Grande Prairie with donations of nonperishable food, cash and new unused toys in order to assist local families in need. Introduced in 2014, the Fill a House Christmas Campaign is now an annual fundraiser that has raised a combined total of over 2,000 toys and $55,000 in monetary donations since its inception.

"We've selected one of our larger show homes to fill in both Edmonton and Grande Prairie. The Pinnacle is 2,280 square feet, so it is a substantial challenge," says Dan Hill, Director of Sales.

Organizations like Lighthouse Church, 840 CFCW, Top Draw and No Frills have all volunteered to adopt their own room within the house, taking on the challenge of filling that space with donations that their teams are able to raise. "We are grateful to all of the community organizations and businesses that have gotten involved this year. Introducing the Adopt-a-Room concept has really helped and the organizations seem to be having lots of fun with it," says Hill.

"With the economic downturn, we are expecting the need to be greater than ever. Local food banks are reporting 50% increases in usage," says Jennifer Hillmer, Business Development Manager. "These campaigns aren't a long term solution to addressing that problem, but these donations will make life a little more comfortable for hundreds of local families and children in need, for at least a few weeks. Everyone deserves a happy Christmas and we are trying to help give them one."

In Edmonton, the donations are raised in support of the Stony Plain Kinsmen Club and Spruce Grove Kinettes Christmas Hamper Programs. In Grande Prairie, the campaign supports the local food bank and Big Country FM's Big Toy Box Campaign.

There are several ways for individuals and organizations still to get involved:

  • Drop off a donation at either of Jandel Homes' Sales Centres (9407 - 163 Avenue in Grande Prairie, or 124A - 26230 Twp Rd 531A in Edmonton)
  • Share your donation photos on social media using the hashtag #FillAHouse
  • Check out the online auction at
  • Come out to Pancake Breakfast in Edmonton on November 26th, sponsored by the Courtyard Marriott Edmonton West - pancakes, kids crafts and photos with Santa are free with a donation
