Bureau en Gros stores in Quebec collect electronic waste equivalent to the
population of Montreal
Retailer collects one kilogram of e-waste for every person in Montreal
LAVAL, QC, June 7 /CNW/ - Bureau en Gros stores in the province of Quebec have collected and recycled 2,050 metric tonnes of electronic waste. That is the equivalent of one kilogram of waste for every person in Montreal. Sixty-six Bureau en Gros stores are an electronic waste depot. Bureau en Gros is partnered with the Centres de formation en entreprise et récupération (CFER), as part of Mission Zero. The program donates computers and other used electronic equipment to schools and community programs helping to train and educate young adults.
"This program not only helps the environment, but our education system as well. It gives young adults an opportunity to learn skills they may not have otherwise been exposed to," said Rudel Caron, Directeur, Ventes et exploitations, Québec. The program was launched in September of 2007 and since then, Bureau en Gros has collected over 2,050,000 KGs of WEEE material to date.
Not only does the retailer recycle electronic goods, but they also collect and recycle used ink/toner cartridges as part of their Recycle For Education program, which donates funds back to participating schools.
